Quilting Hideaway is pleased to offer a limited supply of fabrics for the backing of your quilt. Call us to check on availability. We will ship all excess fabric back to you unless you would like us to donate the scraps to "Quilts of Valor." How Much Backing Fabric is Needed for a Quilt? The width of wide backings is 108” – 115”. Shrinkage of 100% cotton fabrics can be up to 5%. Washing in cold water minimizes shrinkage, as does a cool drying cycle. The general rule is to add 5% to the finished size needed. If your quilt will be machine quilted, remember to add the number of inches your quilter requires as overage. Machine quilters require up to 8” wider and longer than the size of the quilt top, so add the 8” to the dimensions of the quilt top and then add another 5% to the length and width for shrinkage allowance.Your privacy is important to us and we never share your information with anyone else.
